I ran my small business in oil paintings in Canada for two years ago, and I closed it right now.
At the end of 2007, a friend's husband talked with me about running a business together in oil paintings. Because I had an art and sales background, he thought I would be a good partner. I didn't think over it much and just join him. I invested money and worked 6 days a week. After the store was opened after one month, he changed his mind and just gave me a 40% bonus, and keeot the rest. I thought it was unfair. I talked with him, but he would not want give me any more. Actually, we were not partners, but he was my boss, I thought.
Then I quit that business. I was lucky that I didn't loss too much money, except my labour and time. But his behaviour irritated me. I decided to run the business by myself.
I researched on the Internet for finding a supplier in China and gave it some pictures to paint as oil paintings. I went back to China and saw the paintings. They didn't finish them all at that time, so I just saw the parts of them. When I went back to Canada, they shipped the paintings to me. I was so upset when I opened the boxes with the paintings, because the paintings are different from what I saw in China. I called them and asked them what was wrong there. They said they didn't know what happened, and if I wasn't satisfied with the paintings I could ship them back. Oh, my God.
It is easy to set up a business in Canada, but it is hard to run a business here. Finally, I chose to close my business. It was a bad investment.
